If your idea of relaxation is being exhausted from exploring Bear Creek Canyon, enjoying bird watching from your covered deck, hiking up Double E Ranch Trail or just soaking up the peaceful quiet, you’ll want to stay at the Pinon Log Cabin.
From your tin-roof covered deck, you can enjoy views looking toward Bear Creek and its giant cottonwood and sycamore trees. Roadrunners, jackrabbits, hawks, deer, wild turkey or possibly javelinas all call this canyon their home. Take in some of the most stunning star-filled night skies ever imagined. If you sleep better without the glow of city lights and prefer the night sounds of nature to the hum of humanity, then you are going to love the Pinon Log Cabin.
As with the other New Mexico Cabin Rentals properties, the Pinon Log Cabin provides you the opportunity to experience a taste of life on a southwestern New Mexico ranch, explore a diverse ecological region, and encounter the recent and ancient past up close. Enjoy the easy pace of a hot summer day on the ranch as you wander the compound and acquaint yourself with the horses. Look for any one of the hundreds of breeds of birds who call the Gila High Desert home as you challenge the summit of Turtle Rock or explore the canyons of the Double E Ranch. Trace the path of the Mimbres Indians who lived along Bear Creek and the Gila River 1300 years ago. Uncover their history through pottery pieces, ancient tools, pictographs and remnants of stone dwellings which can still be readily found along Bear Creek. Introduce yourself to the more recent legendary characters who roamed the hills, mountains and towns in this area, including Billy the Kid, Geronimo, and Ben Lily. Fill your days and evenings with whatever pleases you because out here, that’s just about the only person you’ll have to answer to. We're proud to be an Airbnb Super Host!

My husband and i spent 2 nights in Pinon Cabin with our dog. The ranch atmosphere was unique and the trails available for hiking were wonderful. The cabin itself was very well stocked and sparkling clean. We enjoyed our stay!
This was a great place to stay for a weekend getaway. Its in a very remote location which made it perfect to see the stars at night. The place was very clean inside and out. Once we figured out how the heater worked the cabin was very toasty. Chris was very helpful and courteous. Hiking trails were very pretty with fall colors and we were able to see deer. If you like the outdoors it is a great place to stay.
Peaceful, relaxing and a nice location to get to the National parks and Silver City.
Thank you so much Sandy for sharing your vacation with us. We appreciate your visit very much. It would be our pleasure to host you again - anytime! Debbie
Cozy Weekend GetAWay
If you're looking for a quiet, cozy, weekend get away I highly recommend this place! Definitely try to get there in daylight if you can - the address is spot on using apple maps, however you won't have (cell) service at the bottom of the hill and it's pitch black out there at night so it'll help to be able to see which cabin you came for! We took the dogs for a hike straight out the door (got engaged at the top of the mountain!), bbq'd while hangin out on the front porch rockers, and split a few bottles of wine enjoying the Wild West DVD collection. Only bummer was the creek was dried up/underground this time, but we will definitely be back this winter to play in the snow :)
Congratulations Danielle on your recent engagement! We sincerely appreciated your visit, are happy you enjoyed the dark skies. The porch rockers for sure give you a comfortable 'out west' feeling. Hopefully, we'll see you in the winter!
Great Place to Reconnect!
My husband and I had a peaceful time staying at Pinon Log cabin where we were able to renew from our busy lives and reconnect with each other in the ranch environment. Everything about our stay was easy, accurately described, and wonderful. We were visited by the barn cats and the ranch dog. In our meanderings about the property we admired the horses, chatted with the friendly owners, and hiked to the top of the hill to take in the expansive view of the bucolic high desert landscape. We were treated with a delightful NM thunderstorm. Even though there are other rentals on the ranch, we still felt as though we had our own private paradise. Our favorite aspect was sitting in the rockers on the front porch where we sipped beverages, read, sketched, talked, and grilled. We highly recommend a stay this property.
We sincerely appreciate your visit and hope we'll see you both again, sometime in the future. You were such a pleasure to host!!
Great Hiking, Wildlife!
What a beautiful and serene place. Great hiking, wildlife and birds. If you are looking for a quiet place to disconnect, this is the place. What great hosts - Debbie, Alan and son Christopher! We'll be back!!
Truly a Special Place!
Truly an special place if you appreciate nature, peace and quiet. Being able to stay on a ranch along such a rare and beautiful riparian area is a precious privilege these days, and will only become more so in the future. Bear Creek is so sweet, and the views from top of the hiking trail are amazing! We consider ourselves very fortunate to have been able to stay in one of these cabins for a few days.
We sincerely appreciate your visit and your very kind review. We'd love to have you back for another visit, anytime!
Thank you for a wonderful and much needed relaxing stay on your beautiful property! We will be back!
Jenny, It was certainly our pleasure! We hope to see you both again, soon!

Expect a wonderful stay away from everything...if time away is needed this is the place to go! The pups and us definitely enjoyed the peace and quiet. Debbie, Thank you for the excellent weekend and for being a super host. Your property is stunning and the accommodations were spotless and comfortable.

Quiet Retreat, Spectacular Landscapes!
Very comfortable, quiet retreat in close proximity to some spectacular landscapes. The cabin has good facilities for cooking your own meals and a wash machine is available in a nearby building. This is a nice place if you are interested in getting away from noise and crowds.
We're so pleased you enjoyed your visit. Our corner of southwest New Mexico offers truly amazing vistas and landscapes. You are most welcome, anytime!
We'll Be Back!
The answer to my wife's last minute request to get away for the weekend and do some thing different was answered by the Double E Ranch. We had an exceptional time. The location is beautiful, the cabin was immaculate and provided everything we needed to enjoy our too-brief stay. Debbie promptly answered all my emails and Alan and Christopher did low key check-ins over the course of our stay - an approach we really appreciate with great AirBnB hosts. If you like the outdoors and want to get away from it all, the Double E is the place to go. We loved being able to just head out the door and enjoy miles of great hiking with beautiful views and then returning to a comfortable cabin to enjoy relaxing on the porch just looking at the wind blow through the trees. A truly perfect weekend. We will be back!
Thanks so much, Matt! We hope we see you both again, soon!
Quiet cabin on a working farm. Very remote, relaxing, great hosts. Loved sitting on the deck!
Thanks very much, Debbie. We certainly enjoyed hosting you and hope we see you again on another adventure! We appreciated your independence, great communication and thoughtfulness by leaving the cabin so tidy and clean. Thank you!
Cozy, quiet and private well equipped cabin where the sun shines brightly through the large front window. Most days are spent on the front porch listening to birds and the nearby creek. Extraordinary walks along Bear Creek. Couldn't ask for anything more.
Quiet and secluded cabin on the edge of the Gila Wilderness
Great quiet place to unwind. Cozy cabin, great for one or two. Radiant floor heat was welcome in February. Nice short hike up the hills owned by the ranch. Enjoyed the collection of old western DVDs. Nice road biking on Rt. 180 and up the local canyon roads; bit of a haul to the Cliff Dwellings north of Silver City.Date of arrival February 17, 2019
Peaceful and beautiful walking trails. It was a perfect quiet getaway. We'll be back in the fall.
Thanks Kathy. Having you and Alex with us was a sincere pleasure. We'd love to have you back on a return visit.
Great place! beautiful scenery and great people. Debby called me after I left to let me know I left my tablet there so I could turn around and get it, otherwise I would have not realized I had left it until it was to late. I would recommend this place to everyone.
Thanks Matt! It was our pleasure having you visit. Hope we see you again, on another trip!
Enjoy the peace and quiet
Enjoy the peace and quietThis is a lovely cabin just outside of the Gila Forest. Take the on property trail head right into the forest. Enjoy the handful of Old Western DVDs available to you. Ride out to Silver City. Or just bask in the peace and quiet.Highly recommend this cabin.
Michael, thank you so much for taking the time to submit a review. It is most kind. We sincerely appreciate it! We hope you'll manage a return trip sometime soon! -- Debbie
Gem Off the Beaten Path!
We really appreciated the quiet, the darkness at night, the serenity. The hike up the mountain was spectacular, and walking the roads was almost as good. Seeing the horses was a treat. The cabin was great. We would definitely come back.
Thank you so much, Anthony! We are happy to know you feel it is as special a place as we do! Hope we see you again, soon!
It was great! Quiet. Worth the visit!
Thanks, Anna. We appreciate your visit and hope we see you both again!
Thank you very much, Debbie, Alan and Chris! What a wonderful, relaxing stay!
Thank you, Sherrie! We sincerely hope we see you again for another visit!
Definitely Going Back!
Absolutely stunning, precious, clean place with everything covered. We even had a folder with a welcome letter that was incredibly informative as well as full of things to do around the area. It even had an astrological chart in it...so neat! Definitely going back in the near future!
Thanks so much, Carrie. You were the perfect guests and we appreciate your visit.
Debbie and Alan's cabin is stunning! It was everything we hoped for and more! It is quite isolated but the property is vast and there is plenty to explore right outside your door. The cabin itself is cozy and very well kept and has everything you need. We got groceries before we arrived and had enough to cook breakfast, lunch and dinner. We ended up spending an entire day hanging out at the cabin and wandering around to check out the scenery on the property. Location-wise it is a central spot great for exploring some of the great sites in southwest New Mexico.
Thanks Shannon! It was a real pleasure to you both with us for the weekend. Very happy you found it as special as we do! Come back soon!
Perfect for Slowing Down!
Debbie's place is perfect slowing down and being out in nature. The cabin is well appointed and very cozy. The porch is great for sitting, and the star gazing is amazing. In addition the cabin is near great hiking. Loved it! We hope to be back soon.
Thank you, Jonathan - it would surely be our pleasure to have you here!
Debbie - We loved our stay! Thanks so much!
Having you, Cameron and two furry friends was our pleasure. We sincerely appreciate your visit and hope we see you again, for another hiking visit. Thanks, too, for the perfectly thoughtful way you left the cabin!
Thanks Alan and Debbie. Had a wonderful time! You have a spectacular place!
Thanks very much, Kate. We sincerely appreciate your visit and hope we see you again!
Nature and Peace
Located in the middle of beautiful nature, good for people who love nature, very quiet, peaceful. I recommend this place strongly if you love nature and are looking for a peaceful place.
Thank you Shiva! We sincerely appreciate you choosing New Mexico Cabin Rentals for your vacation.
My husband and I absolutely loved the cabin and the ranch. A perfect place to get away with our dog. Incredibly comfortable and simply magical. I would highly recommend this place.
You were super guests and we sincerely appreciate that you chose us for your vacation adventure. It would be our pleasure to have you back for a return visit, anytime!
Perfect for Experiencing the Gila (National Forest)
The Log Cabin Studio was fantastic! It was perfect for experiencing the Gila National Forest! The cabin was comfortable and charming. It couldn't have been better!
Thanks so much Ainsley! The Gila National Forest is a very special southwestern treasure. Our location makes it a great home base to begin your exploration of some incredible , scenic vistas. We'd love to have you revisit again, soon!
We Loved Our Cabin!
We loved Debbie's cabin! Remote, quiet and super clean! Thank you!
Thank you so much for sharing your lovely cabin with us! We really enjoyed it!!
Stephanie - we are so happy you enjoyed the Pinon Cabin! We hope you'll plan another visit again, soon!!
Beautiful and relaxing. The remote location allowed us to be one with nature. We felt like we had the whole ranch to ourselves. The other guest and employees were a pleasure. We will return.
Peaceful Cozy Cabin
This is the place for a quiet peaceful get away. Hiking is abundant near and short drive. The cabin was very cozy and had everything needed. The front porch with 2 rockers was our hangout spot. Star gazing was amazing , the meteor shower happened this weekend and a short drive up the hill for the most amazing sunset. Just be reminded that groceries are 45 minutes away. Once we had them we cooked some fabulous meals and enjoyed a glass of wine on the porch. If you don’t need action this is your place
Nice and Quiet
Highly recommend, property was excellent, cabin very well kept and clean....
Thank you Debbie and Alan for sharing such a beautiful relaxing sanctuary with my sister and me. Being away from the cold frigid snowy Montana "spring" and sitting on the deck in our rocking chairs watching the horses, deer, turkey enjoying the late afternoon sun was heavenly. For the entire month of our stay, the weather couldn't have been better! Warm, sunny days, cool nights. We had a fantastic, relaxing, refreshing month with you all. Thank you!
Peaceful retreat in the mountains! We couldn't have asked for a nicer way to spend a couple nights in the Gila National forest. We were very lucky to get availability and the price was very reasonable! The cabin was outstanding; from the complete kitchen facilities to the comfort of the bed, relaxing on the rocking chair on the porch and the hospitality of our hosts! We were able to enjoy a 4 hour hike up and along the ridge of Turtle Mountain just steps from our cabin door. There were three other cabins nearby but we had complete privacy. The road to the property was a slow 4 miles from the village of Gila but the serenity compensates for it. Debbie, our hostess, advised us as to what we would need so we didn't need to leave the cabin. A big thank you to her and her family for the thoughtfulness that they put in to ensure we had a good experience.
Thank you, Kali. We are so very happy you found a tranquil respite to relax and unwind. We hope we see you for a return visit again. It was our pleasure having you with us.
Our stay at the ranch was awesome. The hospitality was beyond our expectations.Chris, Deb and Allan were all very helpful. Our cabin was very cosy and comfortable.Location was ideal for the surrounding hikes and historical observations. We had an opportunity to get to know the neighbours as well. Bill and Dalewere very gracious and took time explains history of the area and tips on many surrounding hikes. Thanks again for help making this trip a positive memorable experience.
Thank you Bryan! You and Jane were most gracious. It was our pleasure to have you with us. We appreciated your communication and the exceptionally tidy condition of the cabin on your departure. We sincerely thank you both and hope we see you again on another visit.
This was a wonderful stay! I really enjoyed the location, the cabin itself and also the customer service. I will certainly be coming back as soon as I can. It was a perfect place to refresh and recharge. One note - if you are planning on driving around and exploring the area I suggest that you fill up your gas tank when you can. Gas stations are few and relatively far between :)
Despite the cabin being a little closer to the other cabins than I'd realized when booking (there are three in a row that are about 30-40ft away from one another), the surrounding landscape, the ranch property and the resident horses, the quiet and tranquil setting—everything was perfect and beautiful. So relaxing and rejuvenating. The property was sweetly inviting, as were Allen, Debbie, and JJ (owners and their sweet dog)!
Great property to walk around see some wildlife and incredible stars at night. Clean and quiet. Quick access to good hiking trails.
We did not meet Debbie but knew someone was available if we had questions or needed anything. What a wonderful stay we loved the quiet, the stars the birds and the cabin. Great location to get to the catwalk hike one day and the big tree trail the next day. Close enough to to spend the day in Silver City had we wanted to. Everything we could have wanted was there! Thanks for a great stay! We will be back!
We actually stayed in the Hideout Cabin (1 bedroom) which is near Piñon Cabin but possibly even quieter. We were looking for a place away from town — quiet, with walking trails— and these cabins fit the bill. The highlight was a bright-red summer tanager in the yard, a bird that we don't see at home in Colorado.
My wife and I had an amazing visit to the Double E Ranch and loved the cabin we stayed in. The cabin was cosy and had everything we were promised and then some. This is certainly off the beaten path as you take a winding dirt road to the property but don't worry, our Prius made the treck just fine. We enjoyed walking around the property saying hi to the horses and exploring as much of the 360 acres as we could. At night, we gazed up into the night sky that was lit up with the best view of the stars you could imagine. We loved our time here and plan to make a trip back sometime in the near future!
Alan ,Debbie and Chris welcomed us and made us feel right at home. We feel very blessed that they have decided to share such a unique and special place with others. We spent a month here and didn't want to leave. Every day brought a new adventure at a nice, relaxed pace! ThankYOU all for a wonderful visit and we can't wait to come back again! Peter & Kelly (Madigan & Lily)
This beautiful and comfortable cabin is tucked away from crowds and traffic and that makes it the perfect getaway. The cabin is truly a home away from home in the sense that it has all the amenities you'll need. In addition, the owners are very responsive should you have any questions. Highly recommended!
After a day of driving and hiking the catwalks we were thrilled to end up at this beautiful, quiet home away from home with all the amenities of your own home situated in a secluded, quiet, absolutely stunning environment. We enjoyed sleeping in a super comfy bed, rocking in the rocking chairs on the porch and hours long hikes joined by eagles through the cottonwoods. If only we would of stayed longer this truly would of been a perfect vacation! We will be back!
Let me start off by saying the cabin was super cosy with a perfect location. The cabin sits within the mountains with an amazing view during the day and more so at night. When you look up at the night sky... OMG!! is all you'll say, no joke. Deborah (the owner), who I only got to know via email unfortunately, is great with responding to any questions or concerns you have. Allen (owner/ husband), is so awesome! My partner and I met with him when we were hiking up the mountain near the cabin as he was leaving, he's a sweet guy who's very welcoming. Their cabin has all the amenities one needs for a get-away vacation. It has a comfortable bed and living space that's just right. The location of the cabin is very quiet and peaceful all around, the town in general to be honest which is great. There's so much to do that will keep you busy and on your feet in the near by towns. Gila forest and national park is amazing, lots too see! Their food and shops are awesome. Overall, my partner and I had an amazing time. We slept great. Ate like kings. And had adventures like explores. You'll love the cabin and the town(s). So stop reading this and book this cabin now and be ready to plan a great, relaxing, stress-free vacation! Thank you to Deborah and Allen, We'll will see y'all soon, - Jesse and Marvin 😊
I stayed in the Agave Guest Home at the Double E Ranch in Gila, New Mexico, over an extended Fourth of July escape. I was looking for a secluded area and tranquil environment, not only for myself to decompress from a stressful job; but for one of my dogs who is terrified of fireworks. Debbie and Al's property delivered! It was so peaceful and calm there...no city traffic noise or crowds, no demands on your time. The cabin is adorable, clean, with everything you'll probably need in a kitchen. We enjoyed the porch looking at the mountains, trees, and corral. There are numerous trees on the property, if you're like me and live in the desert...don't really see many, what I consider trees in Las Cruces. Debbie was very accessible in answering any questions I had, which typically ranged from...is there AC? Will there be fireworks? Is there a grill? Although I didn't meet her face-to-face while in Gila, Debbie was very welcoming and warm. If I needed anything during my stay, I knew I could contact her. The property is close to the Gila National Forest. Each morning, I'd take the dogs for a hike in the forest and near the Gila River/Turkey Creek. I didn't adventure far from the cabin or ranch as seclusion and quiet was what I was seeking. My two dogs had a blast too! The dogs loved that they were able to run around, within reason, by the cabin; and enjoyed the freedom of our hikes. I swear when we returned back home to Las Cruces, my Labrador retriever, seemed sad. I immensely enjoyed the visit to the Double E Ranch; I am hoping to return in the fall of 2016 for another extended weekend escape. Thank you, Debbie and Al!!! Liz Las Cruces, NM
My wife and I stayed at the Double E Ranch for 3 days and it was exactly what we were looking for. It is very private, nestled in the mountains with very little distractions. If you are an outdoor lover, looking for some peace and quiet, this is the place for you. We had unfettered access to the entire property and the ajacent land; plenty of hiking, wildlife and nature. The cabin itself was very nice and well equipped. Furnishings were comfortable, kitchen is stocked with whatever you need to cook (except food, bring your own), hot showers and even wifi with access to video streaming for watching movies when your activity filled day draws to a close. Honestly, I spent most of my time on the front porch at the end of the day soaking up all the nature that the Double E Ranch provides. Debbie is extremely nice, and a gracious hostess. The location is an active ranch so you will see here throughout the day completing her tasks. Our interaction with her was good conversation and friendly waves as she was working on the ranch. My family and I will be staying there again, we are already planning another trip for later this year. You don't feel like you are on a vacation property, you feel like you are visiting with family and are treated like family. I highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a nice, peaceful getaway.
My partner and I recently stayed here. The property was well maintained and fairly quiet. It is a working ranch, so some noise is to be expected! If you are looking for complete privacy, this isn't the place for you. Other cabins are located closely to you as well as residence of the property. More information on the area and activities there would have been great, ex.brochures, magazines etc. The birding was great here, for those of you who enjoy this activity. Not sure if there is hiking close to the property, this information was not provided. The directions given where not 100 percent accurate. I suggest clarifying with the owner before you leave.
We appreciate Sarah's comments on her stay with us and her suggestions to improve our guests experience. It is true that our physical address is not as listed on VRBO as their data base did not recognize our property's accurate physical address (67 Double E Ranch Road). I did send what I thought were specific directions prior to Sarah's visit. Before her departure, it would have been helpful to know what about the directions to the property were unclear. As described in our property information we encourage our guests to explore our property on their own. We include hiking as a guest option; however, we don't insist guests hike on structured 'trails'. In the future, we will provide information on designated hiking trails from the US Forest Service, as well as pamphlets on local attractions, events, etc, as this may be helpful to future guests.
It is a lovely little cabin overlooking one of the horse pastures of the ranch. It had everything we needed for preparing meals. The only problem we encountered was connecting to the WiFi to make outside calls on our cell as the ranch is down in a Valley and we could not get service otherwise. We spent most of our days out hiking in the Gila so it was nice to return to the cabin and sit on the front porch for a cold drink before dinner. A very relaxing place and the bed was quite comfortable. The cabin is small but the kitchen was quite usable for the two of us. It is a quick trip up to the Glenwood area for hiking trails but if you intend to hike out of the southwestern side of the mountains near the cliff dwelling of lake Roberts it is a long haul of 60-80 miles so a place closer to that area would be better. The hosts were very accommodating and not at all intrusive. The listing regarding amenities was quite accurate so we new what to expect. We had our dog so prepared our own meals as opposed to eating out which was good because there is nothing within 30 miles. Overall we had a great time. A good way to get away from it all.
Just spent a month in this beautiful cabin on a ranch in Gila! The cabin is perfect...nicely furnished with everything you will need during your stay. The owners are onsite and available, and you have the opportunity to see them working on the ranch...horses, cattle in the pasture in front of you...a trio of ducks that move around the property...mule deer visit most evenings...and so many beautiful birds! Located outside of Silver City, its an easy drive to tour, shop and learn then the local history! The Gila Cliff Dwellings are a perfect day trip you won't want to miss! So many trails available for hiking in the Gila National Forest as well as great hikes on the ranch. I highly recommend this cabin for a get away and hope to return soon!!!
Thank you, Deb! We sincerely appreciate your visit and hope we see you again, soon!
Amazing place! ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My husband and I enjoyed our time here. The ranchers were all friendly. We talked with one of the cowboys who introduced us to all of the horses and Debbie and Chris made us feel right at home. We star gazed and the ranch is a great jumping off point for all the hikes around the area. I highly recommend this cozy cabin and the beautiful surroundings!

This was to be my first vacation without my husband (who was hunting) and I thoroughly enjoyed it! The Pinon Cabin was so peaceful and comfortable. Nicely furnished and I loved sitting on the deck in the wooden rocker for my morning coffee!
