Gila, New Mexico, United States 88038
Studio-type cabin rental that is perfect for your next long-weekend or full-on vacation to get away from it all.
The Piñon Log Cabin is our version of a Western studio-type apartment. At 430 square feet, this little cabin is big on easy comfort. Perhaps our personal favorite, the full kitchen features custom-designed Italian stone counter tops, a 4-burner stove top, microwave, two apartment-sized refrigerators, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, toaster oven, crock pot/slow cooker, blender, toaster, dishes, flatware, cooking pots, utensils and a dinning bar with stools where you can enjoy breakfast or lunch.
The hotel quality queen bed beckons you to sleep in just a little longer than usual, all snuggled-up in the luxurious Egyptian cotton linens. When you do finally get up, the radiant, in-floor heating will keep your toes nice and warm on chilly mornings and, if you are here during the warmer months, you can count on the AC to keep you cool!
The living area in this quaint little gem features a comfortable sectional sofa with plenty of throw pillows. There is a chest of drawers and vintage cedar armoire. This cabin also boasts a full bath, with shower and tub, and for the evenings when the star-studded sky isn’t quite enough entertainment, there is also a TV/DVD library.
If your idea of relaxation is being exhausted from exploring all nature has to offer, you’ll want to stay at the Piñon Log Cabin.
The Piñon Log Cabin really is at the end of the road. From the covered deck, you can enjoy views of pastures filled with grazing horses, spy roadrunners, jackrabbits, hawks, deer wild turkey and javelinas, and take in some of the most stunning sunsets and star-filled night skies you could ever imagine. If you sleep better without the glow of city lights and prefer the night sounds of nature to the hum of humanity, then you are going to love the Piñon Log Cabin.
As with the other New Mexico Cabin Rentals, The Piñon Log Cabin provides you the opportunity to experience a taste of life on a southwestern New Mexico ranch, explore a diverse ecological region, and encounter the recent and ancient past up close. Enjoy the easy pace of a hot summer day on the ranch as you explore the compound and acquaint yourself with the horses. Look for any one of the hundreds of breeds of birds who call the Gila Desert home as you summit Turtle Rock or explore the boxes and canyons of the Double E Ranch. Trace the path of the Mimbres Indians who lived along Bear Creek and the Gila River 1100 years ago. Uncover their history through pottery pieces, ancient tools, pictographs and remnants of stone dwellings which can still be readily found. Introduce yourself to the more recent legendary characters who roamed the hills, mountains and towns in this area, including Billy the Kid, Geronimo, and Ben Lily. Fill your days and evenings with whatever pleases you because out here, that’s just about the only person you’ll have to answer to.

Despite the cabin being a little closer to the other cabins than I'd realized when booking (there are three in a row that are about 30-40ft away from one another), the surrounding landscape, the ranch property and the resident horses, the quiet and tranquil setting—everything was perfect and beautiful. So relaxing and rejuvenating. The property was sweetly inviting, as were Allen, Debbie, and JJ (owners and their sweet dog)!
Great property to walk around see some wildlife and incredible stars at night. Clean and quiet. Quick access to good hiking trails.
We did not meet Debbie but knew someone was available if we had questions or needed anything. What a wonderful stay we loved the quiet, the stars the birds and the cabin. Great location to get to the catwalk hike one day and the big tree trail the next day. Close enough to to spend the day in Silver City had we wanted to. Everything we could have wanted was there! Thanks for a great stay! We will be back!
For some reason, maybe because of the photos, I thought the cabin would be more private and secluded. In actuality, there are three cabins in a row, not that far apart. The home of the hired hand (I presume) is also close by. Nevertheless, it was still quiet and peaceful. And the cabin was comfortable and nicely appointed. It should be noted that the cabins are at the bottom of a steep canyon, and you have to drive up out of the canyon on a hard pan gravel road to get a view of the surrounding countryside. And if you intend to spend a lot of time in Silver City, it takes about 40 minutes to get there. Finally, I spent five nights at the cabin and never did meet the owners. That was a little disappointing.
We actually stayed in the Hideout Cabin (1 bedroom) which is near Piñon Cabin but possibly even quieter. We were looking for a place away from town — quiet, with walking trails— and these cabins fit the bill. The highlight was a bright-red summer tanager in the yard, a bird that we don't see at home in Colorado.
My wife and I had an amazing visit to the Double E Ranch and loved the cabin we stayed in. The cabin was cosy and had everything we were promised and then some. This is certainly off the beaten path as you take a winding dirt road to the property but don't worry, our Prius made the treck just fine. We enjoyed walking around the property saying hi to the horses and exploring as much of the 360 acres as we could. At night, we gazed up into the night sky that was lit up with the best view of the stars you could imagine. We loved our time here and plan to make a trip back sometime in the near future!
Alan ,Debbie and Chris welcomed us and made us feel right at home. We feel very blessed that they have decided to share such a unique and special place with others. We spent a month here and didn't want to leave. Every day brought a new adventure at a nice, relaxed pace! ThankYOU all for a wonderful visit and we can't wait to come back again! This beautiful and comfortable cabin is tucked away from crowds and traffic and that makes it the perfect getaway. The cabin is truly a home away from home in the sense that it has all the amenities you'll need. In addition, the owners are very responsive should you have any questions. Highly recommended!
After a day of driving and hiking the catwalks we were thrilled to end up at this beautiful, quiet home away from home with all the amenities of your own home situated in a secluded, quiet, absolutely stunning environment. We enjoyed sleeping in a super comfy bed, rocking in the rocking chairs on the porch and hours long hikes joined by eagles through the cottonwoods. If only we would of stayed longer this truly would of been a perfect vacation! We will be back!
Let me start off by saying the cabin was super cosy with a perfect location. The cabin sits within the mountains with an amazing view during the day and more so at night. When you look up at the night sky... OMG!! is all you'll say, no joke. Deborah (the owner), who I only got to know via email unfortunately, is great with responding to any questions or concerns you have. Allen (owner/ husband), is so awesome! My partner and I met with him when we were hiking up the mountain near the cabin as he was leaving, he's a sweet guy who's very welcoming. Their cabin has all the amenities one needs for a get-away vacation. It has a comfortable bed and living space that's just right. The location of the cabin is very quiet and peaceful all around, the town in general to be honest which is great. There's so much to do that will keep you busy and on your feet in the near by towns. Gila forest and national park is amazing, lots too see! Their food and shops are awesome. Overall, my partner and I had an amazing time. We slept great. Ate like kings. And had adventures like explores. You'll love the cabin and the town(s). So stop reading this and book this cabin now and be ready to plan a great, relaxing, stress-free vacation! Thank you to Deborah and Allen, We'll will see y'all soon, - Jesse and Marvin 😊
I stayed in the Agave Guest Home at the Double E Ranch in Gila, New Mexico, over an extended Fourth of July escape. I was looking for a secluded area and tranquil environment, not only for myself to decompress from a stressful job; but for one of my dogs who is terrified of fireworks. Debbie and Al's property delivered! It was so peaceful and calm there...no city traffic noise or crowds, no demands on your time. The cabin is adorable, clean, with everything you'll probably need in a kitchen. We enjoyed the porch looking at the mountains, trees, and corral. There are numerous trees on the property, if you're like me and live in the desert...don't really see many, what I consider trees in Las Cruces. Debbie was very accessible in answering any questions I had, which typically ranged from...is there AC? Will there be fireworks? Is there a grill? Although I didn't meet her face-to-face while in Gila, Debbie was very welcoming and warm. If I needed anything during my stay, I knew I could contact her. The property is close to the Gila National Forest. Each morning, I'd take the dogs for a hike in the forest and near the Gila River/Turkey Creek. I didn't adventure far from the cabin or ranch as seclusion and quiet was what I was seeking. My two dogs had a blast too! The dogs loved that they were able to run around, within reason, by the cabin; and enjoyed the freedom of our hikes. I swear when we returned back home to Las Cruces, my Labrador retriever, seemed sad. I immensely enjoyed the visit to the Double E Ranch; I am hoping to return in the fall of 2016 for another extended weekend escape. Thank you, Debbie and Al!!! Liz Las Cruces, NM
My wife and I stayed at the Double E Ranch for 3 days and it was exactly what we were looking for. It is very private, nestled in the mountains with very little distractions. If you are an outdoor lover, looking for some peace and quiet, this is the place for you. We had unfettered access to the entire property and the ajacent land; plenty of hiking, wildlife and nature. The cabin itself was very nice and well equipped. Furnishings were comfortable, kitchen is stocked with whatever you need to cook (except food, bring your own), hot showers and even wifi with access to video streaming for watching movies when your activity filled day draws to a close. Honestly, I spent most of my time on the front porch at the end of the day soaking up all the nature that the Double E Ranch provides. Debbie is extremely nice, and a gracious hostess. The location is an active ranch so you will see here throughout the day completing her tasks. Our interaction with her was good conversation and friendly waves as she was working on the ranch. My family and I will be staying there again, we are already planning another trip for later this year. You don't feel like you are on a vacation property, you feel like you are visiting with family and are treated like family. I highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a nice, peaceful getaway.
My partner and I recently stayed here. The property was well maintained and fairly quiet. It is a working ranch, so some noise is to be expected! If you are looking for complete privacy, this isn't the place for you. Other cabins are located closely to you as well as residence of the property. More information on the area and activities there would have been great, ex.brochures, magazines etc. The birding was great here, for those of you who enjoy this activity. Not sure if there is hiking close to the property, this information was not provided. The directions given where not 100 percent accurate. I suggest clarifying with the owner before you leave.
We appreciate Sarah's comments on her stay with us and her suggestions to improve our guests experience. It is true that our physical address is not as listed on VRBO as their data base did not recognize our property's accurate physical address (67 Double E Ranch Road). I did send what I thought were specific directions prior to Sarah's visit. Before her departure, it would have been helpful to know what about the directions to the property were unclear. As described in our property information we encourage our guests to explore our property on their own. We include hiking as a guest option; however, we don't insist guests hike on structured 'trails'. In the future, we will provide information on designated hiking trails from the US Forest Service, as well as pamphlets on local attractions, events, etc, as this may be helpful to future guests.
It is a lovely little cabin overlooking one of the horse pastures of the ranch. It had everything we needed for preparing meals. The only problem we encountered was connecting to the WiFi to make outside calls on our cell as the ranch is down in a Valley and we could not get service otherwise. We spent most of our days out hiking in the Gila so it was nice to return to the cabin and sit on the front porch for a cold drink before dinner. A very relaxing place and the bed was quite comfortable. The cabin is small but the kitchen was quite usable for the two of us. It is a quick trip up to the Glenwood area for hiking trails but if you intend to hike out of the southwestern side of the mountains near the cliff dwelling of lake Roberts it is a long haul of 60-80 miles so a place closer to that area would be better. The hosts were very accommodating and not at all intrusive. The listing regarding amenities was quite accurate so we new what to expect. We had our dog so prepared our own meals as opposed to eating out which was good because there is nothing within 30 miles. Overall we had a great time. A good way to get away from it all.
Just spent a month in this beautiful cabin on a ranch in Gila! The cabin is perfect...nicely furnished with everything you will need during your stay. The owners are onsite and available, and you have the opportunity to see them working on the ranch...horses, cattle in the pasture in front of you...a trio of ducks that move around the property...mule deer visit most evenings...and so many beautiful birds! Located outside of Silver City, its an easy drive to tour, shop and learn then the local history! The Gila Cliff Dwellings are a perfect day trip you won't want to miss! So many trails available for hiking in the Gila National Forest as well as great hikes on the ranch. I highly recommend this cabin for a get away and hope to return soon!!!
Thank you, Deb! We sincerely appreciate your visit and hope we see you again, soon!
Wouldn't Change a Thing!
We loved our stay, loved our cabin and wouldn't change thing! Beautiful property!
Amazing place! ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My husband and I enjoyed our time here. The ranchers were all friendly. We talked with one of the cowboys who introduced us to all of the horses and Debbie and Chris made us feel right at home. We star gazed and the ranch is a great jumping off point for all the hikes around the area. I highly recommend this cozy cabin and the beautiful surroundings!
Exceptional! All the people were very nice. It was an exceptional time.Very nice, clean, well stocked with all appliances and dishes, coffee maker, dish washer. We brought our 16 week old pug puppy and she had be a ball. We will be back only a little bigger cabin.
This was to be my first vacation without my husband (who was hunting) and I thoroughly enjoyed it! The Pinon Cabin was so peaceful and comfortable. Nicely furnished and I loved sitting on the deck in the wooden rocker for my morning coffee!

Rustic, but very soothing for the soul!
